How we teach

Our approach

Visual support

Mind maps and pictograms help students see connections between words, parts of speech and learning content.

Developing thinking

We connect language knowledge with practice. Studying subjects in foreign languages helps bring together language and an understanding of the world.

Academic literacy

We develop skills for working with learning content and language, drawing on collaboration with academic literacy specialists.

From language school to bilingual education

The history of Interclass

  1. Founding the language school

The Interclass language school was founded to provide language education.

  2. Our own textbooks

Development began on patented textbooks to meet students' specific needs.

  3. Intercamp summer camp

Intercamp was introduced: an English-language summer camp with annual themes such as films, books, theatre, art, history and geography.

  4. The first Interclass maps

The first Interclass maps were introduced, using mind maps to support learning.

  5. Pictograms and map development

Pictograms for parts of speech were introduced, and the Interclass maps were developed further with sections for participants, processes and circumstances.

  6. Growing the network

The first franchise school opened in Kharkiv, followed by two new schools each year across Ukraine.

  7. Subjects in English

A partnership was established with Pearson Center “Step-Up” in Bristol, enabling subjects such as mathematics, history, geography and literature to be taught in English.

  8. Online learning

Teaching moved online because of COVID-19 restrictions, using online platforms for distance education.

  9. Continuing education during the war

The outbreak of war in Ukraine led to the closure of most franchise offices and a complete move to online teaching. A bilingual programme was piloted for Grade 1 students in Ukrainian primary schools.

  10. Interclass School in Kryvyi Rih

The bilingual Interclass School was founded in Kryvyi Rih. Collaboration began with prominent academic literacy experts, including Dr Beverly Derewianka and Pauline Jones from Australia, and Dr Ruslana Westerlund from the USA.
